Students will feel comfortable during [assessment] tests. . 1. 80% of all students surveyed will indicate agree or strongly agree on 4 out of 5 questions [related to their comfort level during assessment tests]. The scanable survey will be developed locally by ACS and research office staff. Students will be given the survey immediately as they exit the testing area during the summer and fall 2005. The survey will be administered by ACS staff and the results will be summarized by the research office. Open ended items will be summarized by ACS staff. 1. A total of 444 students were surveyed. The results for each of the five survey questions are: a) 98% agreed the test administrator was helpful. b) 98% agreed the test directions were clear. c) 79% agreed I could easily see the time remaining for the test. d) 92% agreed the test administrator made me feel welcome. e) 95% agreed the test administrator was patient. The dept requested survey responses are disaggregated by test administrator to determine if there were any differences between staff. ACS staff also summarized open-ended responses to enhance the findings. Key findings: 20% of students surveyed expressed concerns with knowing the amount of time remaining for the test. A second key finding is that 8% of students did not feel welcomed by the test administrator. 1. The following changes have been implemented by the Assessment Center. a) The department relocated the timer to improve the view of time remaining for students taking a test. b) The department also discussed ways to verbally communicate time remaining at various intervals to students during testing. This is now being implemented. c) The director and staff will work together to determine ways to help students feel more comfortable during assessment, as well as feeling welcomed overall.
