DSPS is committed to providing quality programs and services which enable students with verified disabilities to access and participate in instructional and non-instructional programs at 91ֱ 1. Students will request accommodations that have been recommended by DSPS professionals. 2. DSPS will develop campus-wide awareness of the needs of students with disabilities. .70% of all active DSPS students with an accommodation recommendation noted on an Educational Accommodation form on file will request classroom/testing accommodations using the Student Request for Classroom Accommodations form within one year as determined by DSPS staff/faculty. In a campus-wide faculty survey generated and distributed in Fall 2003 by DSPS faculty/staff, and tallied by the Research office in Spring 2004, 65% of respondents will answer yes on the following questions: I am aware of how to refer a student to DSPS and I have a basic understanding of the federal /state laws and guidelines governing access and accommodations for students with disabilities. And 80% of respondents will answer Yes to all categories of disabilities assisted by DSPS within the statement: Were you aware that DSPS assists students with the following disabilities?On the first question 76.29% respondents indicated Yes when asked I am aware of how to refer a student to DSPS On the second question 81.44% of respondents indicated Yes when asked I have a basic understanding of the federal/state laws and guidelines governing access and accommodations for students with disabilities Item analysis of responses was as follows: Mobility: 90.32% Learning :93.62% Vision: 86.02% Speech/lang:83.87% Attention Deficit: 71.28% Health/Medical: 71.43% Deaf &Hard of Hearing: 93.62% Mental Health: 52.69% Acquired Brain Injury: 65.59% The department will continue to advance campus-awareness by expanding its efforts to go into classrooms to give presentations on DSPS, which will cover not only faculty but students as well On next round of surveys, DSPS will consider possible multiple measures In the departments expanded efforts to advance campus-awareness inn the classrooms, DSPS will add to its previous information regarding assistance provided by DSPS in the Mental Health and acquired brain injury areas.
