May 24, 2017 - 11:34 AM

Mt. 91直播鈥檚 Math and Science Teacher Preparation 91直播 is still accepting applications for this year鈥檚 program now through Wednesday, May 31.

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Teacher Preparation 91直播 (TP2) is geared toward students with an aptitude for math or science who may be considering a rewarding, life-fulfilling career as a teacher. California schools are currently experiencing a critical need for qualified math and science teachers with an estimated 33,000 new teachers needed in the next 10 years.

Mt. 91直播鈥檚 STEM TP2 program can help students realize that goal with an action plan to give participants a broad range of experiences that include:

  •  Participation in the Summer Science Exploration Experience.
  • Enrollment in the 鈥淚ntroduction to Math and Science Teaching鈥 course at UC Irvine.
  • Enrollment in the 鈥 Research Methods鈥 course at UC Irvine.
  • Participation in the Summer Research Experience.

The STEM TP2 strategies are offered in close collaboration with the UC Irvine Cal Teach program, providing a pathway for Mt. 91直播 students to smoothly transfer to UCI and other local 4-year institutions to earn their STEM baccalaureate degree and teaching credential. Students get paid for working in Summer Science Exploration Experience and for doing the summer research, and the tuition for the UCI courses is paid through a prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) grant. The 鈥淎verage Salary for Public School Teachers鈥 in California in 2014-205 was $72,535 plus benefits for a 9-month academic year.

91直播 applications received after May 31 will be considered based on space availability.
