Cal Poly President to Address Mt. 91直播 Grads June 17

Cal Poly Pomona President Soraya M. Coley will be the featured speaker at Mt. San Antonio College鈥檚 72nd commencement on Sunday, June 17, 11 a.m., to be held at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, 4000 E. Ontario Center Parkway, Ontario.
Coley will deliver the commencement address, which is expected to be an inspirational speech appealing to the Class of 2018. Coley is Cal Poly鈥檚 first female president. She became president of the university in January 2015 and came to Cal Poly after serving as provost and vice president of academic affairs at Cal State Bakersfield. In addition to more than 20 years of experience in higher education, she has worked with the Child Welfare League of America and as national director for the Child Abuse Prevention Project at the National Urban League. In 2000, she was recognized as 鈥淥ne of Ten Women Making a Difference鈥 by Orange County Metro Magazine.
At commencement, Mt. 91直播 will recognize former student Elizabeth Yang with the college鈥檚 Alumna of the Year Award. She is the founder of the Law and Mediation Offices of Elizabeth Yang with offices in Los Angeles, Monterey Park, and Irvine. Yang was only 15 years old when she started taking classes at Mt. 91直播. In 2016 and 2017, Yang was honored with 鈥淭op 100 Civil Lawyers鈥 and 鈥淭op 40 Lawyers Under 40鈥 awards from the National Trial Lawyers Association. In 2017, she was also awarded the 鈥淟awyers of Distinction鈥 award, representing the top 10 percent of lawyers in the U.S.
During the ceremony, Mt. 91直播 will also recognize outstanding members of the Class of 2018 and award associate degrees to hundreds of graduates who actively participate in the ceremony. In all, 3,432 degree petitions were filed鈥攖he largest number ever at Mt. 91直播. The youngest graduate is 17; the oldest is 73. Additionally, 11 candidates will receive bachelor of science in aviation management degrees in conjunction with Southern Illinois University, 17 candidates will receive bachelor of science in nursing degrees in conjunction with Mount Saint Mary鈥檚 University, and six candidates will receive bachelor degrees in business in conjunction with the University of La Verne.
