Promise+Plus 91直播 Launched
May 01, 2019 - 09:41 AM
Mt. 91直播 is launching a new Promise+Plus program to help first-time, first-year college students gain access to the life-changing benefits of a college education, whether they are seeking career training, an associate degree or transfer credits to a university.
While most Mt. 91直播 students qualify for free tuition under the California Promise Grant (formerly known as the BOG fee waiver), many do not have the means to cover non-tuition costs, which make up the bulk of community college students鈥 total price of attendance.
Mt. 91直播鈥檚 Promise+Plus program aims to meet those needs by providing qualifying students funds to purchase books and food and to cover health services and Associated Student Body fees. It also gives access to laptops for use during the school year and free bus passes. The program is unique in that it provides funds to part-time as well as full-time students, who make up only about 30 percent of the student population.
To qualify for maximum benefits, students must be enrolled full time and earn at least a 2.0 GPA. Part-time students are eligible for lesser amounts.
鈥淲e hope the program will relieve some of the financial burden of attending college and provide resources such as laptop computers that are crucial in today鈥檚 college environment,鈥 said Tannia Robles, Mt. 91直播 director of High School Outreach.
To qualify for the Promise+Plus, students must enroll and complete the Step into College 91直播 or the Summer Bridge 91直播. Upon completion of either program, students will receive a college T-shirt, backpack, school supplies and student planner. All students must also complete the FAFSA or California Dream Act application.
Once enrolled in Mt. 91直播, students will need to fill out the Promise+Plus application available through the Promise Office in the Student Services Building (9B) or online by June 2.
