The Associate in Arts in Social Justice Studies for Transfer is an interdisciplinary program that provides students with the core knowledge and skills needed to pursue a baccalaureate degree in Social Justice or a related field. In this program, students will be introduced to the basic principles of social justice, social equity, and social change, and they will be challenged to explore and identify how deficits within the social structure 鈥� rather than deficits within marginalized individuals 鈥� are the primary cause of the inequitable distribution of and access to wealth and health, education and occupations, power and privilege.
The Associates in Arts in Social Justice Studies for Transfer can be earn as follows:
1. Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:
A. The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education 鈥� Breadth Requirements.
B. A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the 91直播 District.
2. Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0. ADTs also require that students must earn a C or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A 鈥楶鈥� (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on Pass/No Pass basis. Students earning an associate degree for transfer in Social Justice Studies will not be required to complete any other local graduation requirements.

    • How Do I Know This Major Is For Me?

      Social Justice students tend to be self-aware and are able to value and understand others, recognize societal inequities, interact effectively with different types of people and are eager to build equity and inclusivity. The program teaches students how to work with culturally diverse populations and understand how social justice issues affect various communities. Students will study social justice issues at local, national, and international levels so that they can become more informed citizens and community leaders. Graduates have pursued careers in legislative advocacy, politics, government service, human services, human rights and peace organizations, education, community organization, law enforcement and law. Career opportunities are available in program development, management, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, research and analysis, and more.
